We know that women have been graduating from accounting and other professional education faculties such as law, and medicine at rates comparable to men for decades. However, career advancement rates for women remain curtailed. A reality illustrated most vividly by the fact that only 13-19% of North American C-suite roles are occupied by women today.
The reasons for this are complex involving biological, cultural and societal factors. What is clear is that there are key turning points in each woman’s career that require skilful navigation of issues and stressors that play out in ways that are unique to or particularly acute for women.
Come to this session to hear what we learned over the past thirty years with respect to career navigation for women in the professions. There are specific ways in which we can support women leaders through three critical career stages of launch, sustaining momentum in mid-career, and the transition into executive leadership.
Given the challenges we face globally, we cannot afford to wait the 100+ years experts say it will take to achieve gender parity at our current rates of progress. We owe it to individual women to be able to fulfill their full potential both personally and professionally. We owe it to our organizations and our societies that will benefit from having the perspectives of women leaders to help shape economic and social policy for the next generation.
