Richard Caturano

Partner, National Leader of Culture, Diversity and Inclusion, NCDI Chair | RSM US LLP

Richard Caturano is a partner in the Boston Office of RSM US LLP (RSM), the nation's leading provider of audit, tax and consulting services focused on the middle market, where he serves as the firm's national leader of culture, diversity and inclusion. Throughout his career, Caturano has specialized in serving middle market companies.

Previously, Caturano was a founding member of Vitale, Caturano and Company (VCC), and led the firm through substantial growth to become the largest independent firm in New England. In 2010, VCC merged with RSM making the Boston office its third largest office. He is a graduate of Bentley University, where he obtained both a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in taxation.

From 2012-2013, Caturano served as the 100th Chair of the 400,000 member American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). As AICPA Chair, Caturano took on the challenge of the lack of diversity and inclusion in the accounting profession. He helped establish the National Commission on Diversity and Inclusion and has personally delivered the message of diversity and inclusion to tens of thousands of professionals and business leaders. His message has inspired CPA firms across the country to add diversity and inclusion as a top strategic priority.

Sparked by his AICPA involvement, Caturano developed the strategy for and launched RSM's Culture, Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) program in 2014. Since then, CDI has been transforming innovation, collaboration and business results through a culture of diversity and inclusion. He continues to drive the CDI mission, vision and impact through initiatives such as RSM’s annual CDI Summit and his support of diversity and inclusion education. Caturano also provides leadership for RSM's Inclusion Council and oversees the firm's 11 employee network groups (ENGs), which provide opportunities for volunteerism, professional development, mentorship and networking for everyone at the firm.

Caturano has been active in many professional, charitable and civic organizations, most proudly a past president of the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants and a current board member of the Boston Police Athletic League.

Caturano has been honored both for his work in the accounting industry and his efforts in promoting diversity and inclusion. Some of his recent recognitions include:

• Five-time recipient of Accounting Today’s “100 Most Influential People in Accounting”
• Current Chair of the National Commission on Diversity & Inclusion, AICPA
• NABA FY18 National Achievement in Public Accounting Award winner (2018)
• Anti-Defamation League, New England - Torch of Liberty recipient (2014)
